Best Places for Breakfast and Brunch in West Berkshire

As the saying goes, the best way to start the day is with a good breakfast, or, if it’s a weekend and a lie-in is an option, perhaps brunch. Often the favourite meal of the day, it’s always a real treat to go out for a leisurely breakfast or brunch and is, in our view, a perfect kickstart to any day. We’re spoilt for choice in West Berkshire with so many places to choose from, so here’s our list of some of the best.

1. Colline's Kitchen

One of our absolute favourites, Colline’s Kitchen at the Waterside Centre in Newbury town centre offers an idyllic spot by the canal, where you can sit and watch the swans glide past as you sip on your morning coffee. This little hidden gem is open from Tuesday to Saturday 8.30am – 4.30pm and the breakfast bowls are to die for. The coffee is pretty good too! Colline believes in healthy and sustainable food using locally sourced fresh ingredients. What’s more, she will always try and accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, ensuring her customers are served a bespoke plate of food and leave feeling happy. Now that summer’s here, get down there and grab your spot in the sunshine. You’ll enjoy every mouthful. www.collineskitchen.com

2. Honesty Café

With branches in Newbury town centre, Inkpen, Greenham, Kingsclere, Donnington and Saddleback, Honesty Café is your trusted local coffee shop chain. But the Honesty Group is so much more than a chain, as each branch has a character of its own, set in either a beautiful rural location, or in a place which provides the ideal opportunity for a spot of shopping, or even, in the case of The Base at Greenham, the chance to browse a fabulous art exhibition. Honesty is a food business which really cares about its food and where it comes from. Bakery is big on the agenda here; pop into any branch and you’ll be faced with a plethora of choice of delicious bread, pastries, cakes and bakes. The porridge is great too. Honest in all that it does, we can’t recommend Honesty enough. www.honestygroup.co.uk

4. Malverleys Farm and Dining

Having been the talk of the town for many, many, months, Malverleys Farm and Dining is finally open. And we are super excited. The space, which has been a long time in the planning, and which came to fruition on 7th June, is opposite the main Malverleys House in the picturesque village of East End, near Newbury. The owners had a vision for this new project, born out of a love of the countryside and a wish to benefit the community with a small farm and local business. And there’s no doubt about it: this place exudes quality and luxury and it’s clear that a whole lot of love and attention has gone into making this a very special place to visit. Open Wednesday-Sunday, 9am-5pm (10am-4pm on Sundays), pop into the deli for a great cup of coffee and a scrumptious pastry and other treats and take the time to explore the stunning surroundings including the gift shop, which sells unique handmade products. Or book a table at the farm restaurant for a light lunch, using local and sustainable produce, often homegrown ingredients from the farm’s very own market garden and farmland.

We are sure this new venture is going to benefit the community in every way. Bring it on. www.malverleys.co.uk
