What’s on in July in West Berkshire

Summer is hotting up and so are the events going on in West Berkshire this month. Before the little ones break up for the long summer holidays, take a moment for yourself and enjoy one or more of these great local events. You’ll appreciate the holidays all the more for it: have a fabulous summer break, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.

1. Colline's Kitchen Supper Clubs: Mexican and Paella

Colline’s Kitchen is renowned for its fabulous supper clubs and July brings three great ones. Paella night, in aid of the Newbury Soup Kitchen, is on Saturday 1st July at 6.30pm, Feijoada night (the traditional Portuguese dish of smoked sausage, black beans and rice) is on Saturday 15th July at 6.30pm, and Mexican night, in aid of FLAG DV, is on Saturday 29th July at 7-9pm. All three are at the usual venue of the Waterside Centre in Newbury town centre. Check out the website for more details of the menus on offer, which are released two weeks before each event.  

These are intimate and hugely popular supper clubs with limited spaces, so book your spot without delay. A great opportunity to experience different types of food and meet some interesting people. 2. Project Salama Coffee Morning and Ball

The Mayor of Newbury and Project Salama are co-hosting a coffee morning at the Newbury town hall on Saturday 1st July at 11am-2pm. All funds raised will go towards this wonderful charity which helps individuals and families affected by abuse. Everyone is welcome; just turn up.

Project Salama is also hosting another special event in July: The Masquerade Ball takes place on Saturday 15th July, 7pm-midnight, at Double Tree by Hilton in Wokingham. This promises to be a fantastic and exciting evening full of glamour and intrigue. Dress code is strictly ball gowns, tuxedos, and masquerade masks. 3. Postnatal Workshop with The Parent Village

As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. The Parent Village is a wonderful local support group for new mums and parents generally, which meets at Newbury library every Wednesday from 11am-2pm. These are drop-in sessions with free coffee and cake and are all about parents helping each other. This month, The Parent Village is also hosting a postnatal workshop at the Waterside Centre in Newbury town centre on Saturday 8th July at 10am-2pm. 4. July at the Renegade Brewery

The Renegade Brewery will be buzzing with action in July with a whole host of events:

 

  • Forest Fest is on Saturday 1st This beer, BBQ, and live music festival starts at 12pm and runs on until 11pm. It’s a free event, so just turn up when you like and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Don’t forget to try the Hazy Pale special while you’re there. All over 18s get a free can of the latest limited edition, Paradise, Lost, Paradise Found Hazy Pale. Cheers!
  • West Berkshire Cars and Coffee is on Sunday 2nd July 9am-12pm. This relaxed automotive social gathering is for all car enthusiasts, no matter what vintage your car! This event is usually held on the first Sunday of the month and is a free event. Check out westberkscarsandcoffee.com for more details.
  • Undercover Comedy night is on Tuesday 11th July at 6.30pm. Comedy nights at the brewery are always super popular, so book well in advance. This event takes place in the tent at the brewery and features superb comic acts including Roger Monkhouse and Jonathan Elston. Tickets are £13.20, which includes the online booking fee.
  • Porsche Club is on Sunday 23rd Similar to the Cars and Coffee meet-up, but this one is specifically for Porsche enthusiasts. Come for a coffee, make some new friends – all who have a love of Porsches in common!
  • Quiz night is on Wednesday 26th This is a hugely fun night with great prizes to be won. Teams of up to 8 people. Reserve your table now.

5. Woodland Retreat and Yoga Workshops at Treetops

This haven of tranquillity in Newbury always offers some great workshops and July is no exception.

This month, Treetops is hosting the restorative Woodland Retreat on Sunday 2nd July, which takes place in its very own woodland. This retreat combines meditation, breath work, gentle movement, writing and earth medicine to ensure you leave feeling fully grounded and connected to nature and to ourselves. The retreat runs from 10am-2pm and includes a delicious plant-based lunch and refreshments. Tickets are £65. Only a few spaces left.

Also, this month, is the online Summer Yoga class, which is a gentle and relaxing yoga flow, perfect for helping you stretch and cool down after a more intense workout. 6. Beyond 4 Walls art exhibition at Greenham Common

This fascinating art exhibition is brought to you by Textile Art 07, a small group of artists who share a love of textiles and meet fortnightly. Beyond 4 Walls is a culmination of their lockdown experiences and showcases pieces inspired by the things that kept them going in the limited time spent beyond the four walls of home. The exhibition at the Control Tower at Greenham Common runs from 5th-23rd July, 10am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays and 10.30am-3pm Wednesdays to Fridays. Admission is free. This promises to be a truly inspiring exhibition.

7. Yoga with Nourish by V

Nourish by V is back again this month with another yin yoga and crystal bowl sound healing evening at Wasing Wellbeing on Friday 28th July at 6.30pm. This two-hour session of relaxation and zen includes a soothing candlelit yin yoga practice, which is a slow-paced yoga incorporating principles of Chinese medicine and postures that are held for longer to enable the body to fully settle. This will then be followed by a crystal bowl sound healing journey, connecting the chakras, the body’s energy centres, leaving you calm and grounded. 8. Associations Exhibition

This exhibition of contemporary arts and crafts by Ayres House Studio Associates will be showing at Ayres House Studios in Wallingford, from 1st – 9th July 10.30am-4.30pm, with a late viewing on Thursday until 8pm. There will be a whole host of artists showcasing their work, including bespoke lampshades from Aimée Payton at The Lampshade Studio, floral paintings and crafts from Amy Hughes, sculpture from Philippa Macarthur and wildlife paintings from Andrew Forkner. 9. RenARTgades Modern Makers Fair

The next RenARTgades Modern Makers Fair is coming to the Waterside Centre in Newbury on Saturday 8thJuly from 10am-4pm. This fabulous arts and crafts fair offers a handpicked selection of stalls filled with gorgeous local produce from various makers, bakers and crafters. 10. Time to Talk Pop-up Boutique

On Monday 17th July, Lady Gent is hosting a pop-up boutique charity event in aid of Time to Talk, a charity which supports young people with their emotional and mental health through counselling. The fair is from 10am-3pm at Donnington Castle House in Newbury. This event features a great selection of stalls, including Armadillo Jewellery, Hawkridge Gin, Manuka Direct, Marsdens Fudge, Isla Boo children’s clothing and Vanilla Sweets. Entry tickets are £10, upon which you’ll be entered into a special prize draw for a gift from JoJo boutique, another one of the fabulous stalls there on the day.
