What’s on in May in West Berkshire

Ok, so spring has been a washout so far, but we’re holding high hopes for some sunshine in May, whilst hanging on to the fact that summer is just around the corner. Luckily, regardless of the weather, there’s lots to get excited about this month in West Berkshire, so book onto one of these fabulous events and feed your mind, body, and soul.

1. Wine club and Interrailing through Italy at Goat on the Roof

  • 2nd May: Kick off the month with the monthly wine club at Goat on the Roof. This month, it’s all about the Tempranillo. Head to Spain and sample six delicious red wines. This event takes place on Thursday 2ndMay at 7-8.30pm. Wine clubs are always very popular, so you’re advised to book early.
  • 16th May: Join the adventure on this interrail journey, ‘Interrail Italy’ on 16th May at 7-8.30pm. Following the interrail route from Northern to Southern Italy, you’ll sample some fabulous wines at numerous stops along the way! This is bound to be a fun night, so grab a ticket now. Viva Italia!

2. May Fun at Renegade Brewery

The Renegade Brewery may well be the place to be this month! With a schedule packed full of fun events throughout May, you’ll find yourself wanting to attend them all.

  • 3rd May from 7pm, and then every Friday from then on through the summer! Join the ‘Summer Sessions’ live music in the beer garden. A great way to relax on a Friday night!
  • 5th May at 9am-12pm: West Berks Cars and Coffee meetup. Meet like-minded folk and bond over cars and coffee! This is a free event, so just turn up!
  • 7th May at 6.30-9.30pm: the immensely popular Undercover Comedy night is back on 7th May from 7.30-9.30pm. You’ll be treated to a night full of laughs from Rich Wilson, James Ellis, and Jonathan Elston. Tickets are £13. Over 18s only. Dress warmly!
  • 11th May 11am-11pm: Come and join the fun with the Hazy Rider New England IPA beer launch with live music, burgers, and prizes to keep you entertained. Entry is free, just come and enjoy the day.
  • 29th May from 7.30pm: the infamous Renegade Quiz returns for another month. Organise a team of 8, get swotting and get competitive! Tickets are £5. Great prizes to be won!

3. Watercolour Workshop at Treetops

What better way to celebrate our gardens coming to life again this year than to join this watercolour workshop, ‘In your Garden’, on 9th May, 10am-3.30pm at Treetops. With sunshine and shadows, you’ll create a painting looking at foreground, mid-ground, and background placement as well as colour and tone. Although this session is now full, you can join the waitlist and may still get a place! £85.

4. Newbury Spring Festival

This year celebrates the 45th Newbury Spring Festival, one of the most popular and successful music festivals in the South of England. Taking place over two weeks in May, from 11th-25th May, the festival brings to Newbury a huge array of global musical talent, including emerging young artists, as well as established musicians. The programme is jam-packed, with something for everyone, from masterclasses to performances and recitals, so check out the online festival guide and book tickets to whatever takes your fancy. www.newburyspringfestival.org.uk

5. Crystal Bowl Sound Healing and Yin Yoga workshop with Nourish by V

This wonderful two-hour evening workshop with Nourish by V on 24th May will be focusing on welcoming the full moon in through the magic of sound. Taking place at the gorgeous venue of Wasing Wellbeing at 6.30-8.30pm, you’ll take part in some soothing yin yoga, followed by a crystal bowl sound healing session, leaving you feeling grounded and reconnected after a busy week. 6. Floral Wreath Parties with Floral Beauts and Sally Rimmer Photography

If you’re looking for party ideas for your little ones, why not throw a floral wreath party with Floral Beauts for something different? 7. Ballroom and Latin American Dance Classes with Mayo Dance Studios

Mayo Dance Studios are kicking off two new four-week dance courses this month. Have a go at either the Improvers Ballroom and Latin American classes or the Intermediate Ballroom and Latin American classes both starting on 30th April until 21st May, every Tuesday at 6.30-7.30pm and 7.30-8.30pm respectively at Newbury Rugby Club. £36 for the four weeks or pay as you go at £12 per class.
